Who We Are

The Centre for Equity and Human Rights (CEHR), a Student Federation service, is attentive to ensure that differences among students are not treated in ways that produce direct or indirect forms of discrimination. Our work predominantly entails matters related to the Ontario Human Rights Code (“the Code”) and Law 168 (OHSA, with respect to violence and harassment in the workplace).

Our Commitment to students requires that CEHR works in full compliance with the spirit and intent of the Ontario Human Rights Commission and provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code.

At the Centre for Equity and Human Rights, we have a vision:

A University of Ottawa campus that fosters a culture of respect.  A campus community that upholds an environment where all students can expect to be respected, to learn in an environment where they are treated with dignity, where students can look forward to studying and living on campus unhindered by any discriminatory practices. A campus that not only celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion but also understands these fundamental values.

As such the role of our Centre’s mandate is two tiered: Education and Advocacy.
